HMIS VOH calculation update to include “Pauses” CLA & Manual Entries
Published: August 19, 2026

Overview

The Homeless Verification Form (Simplified and Detailed Views) has been updated to include CLA Pauses and Manual Entry Pauses in the homeless episode calculation. Month-End Expansion Rules:

  • Single Records: When a Homeless CLA is the only record in a month, it expands to cover the entire month.
  • Leading Records: When a Homeless CLA is preceded by a Pause, it begins on its designated date. If no Pause follows, the Homeless CLA extends through the end of the month.
  • Trailing Records: When a Homeless CLA is followed by a Pause, it ends the day before the Pause begins. If it is the final record following a Pause, it extends through the end of the month. Conflicts & Overlaps:
  • When a Homeless CLA and Pause occur on the same day, the Homeless CLA takes precedence.
  • When records overlap, the expansion logic is applied to the first (leading) and last (trailing) records in the sequence. Constraints & Exceptions:
  • Automated expansion of Homeless CLAs is limited to the current month and does not carry over into the following month.
  • Manual Entry records use their specified start and end dates. These records are incorporated into the pause logic and may span multiple months; therefore, they are not subject to the single-month expansion rule.
  • The existing 7-day rule remains unchanged.
Impact & Necessary Actions

Users should be aware that homeless episode dates displayed in the Simplified and Detailed Views may change based on the presence of CLA or Manual Entry Pauses. Users should continue entering pauses using the appropriate CLA or Manual Entry options and review the resulting homeless episode dates in the Homeless Verification views
