Tuesday, January 23th, 2024 is Connecticut’s annual Point in Time (PIT) count! Please review the important message below from our partners at Nutmeg.

Please review the information below for a summary of to-do items. All of the training materials have been posted to the PIT Resource site.

Steps to take before the count:

  • Log-in to PIT database
  • Check that all of your projects appear on your programs list.
  • Watch the training video(s) if you did not attend.
  • Review any other training materials as appropriate at cthmis.com/pit.

Steps to take between 1/23/24 and data confirmation, 1/30/24:

  • HMIS Participating Sheltered Programs:
  • If bed counts have change significantly since last confirmation, please update.
  • Review data in PIT database to ensure accuracy and confirm when correct.
  • If inaccurate, take steps to correct errors in HMIS (e.g. move-in dates, exits, bed check-ins, hotel/motel service, etc.) so that an accurate count is shown in the database.
  • Rapid Rehousing Programs – confirm your people counts and then make sure to go into the bed portion of the PIT database and confirm your beds.
  • Non-HMIS Sheltered Programs:’
  • Manually enter client data into the people count fields.
  • For any PIT-Only DOH CAN Hotel/Motel programs, update Smartsheets and share with Jim Bombaci at Nutmeg by 1/30/2024.

  • For any PIT-Only Warming Centers make sure to use the Smartsheet data collection link to enter client data 2024 Smartsheet Intake –

  • HMIS Participating Unsheltered Programs:
  • See or speak to the person experiencing unsheltered homelessness on the evening of 1/23 or by 1/30/24 to determine place of sleep on 1/23.
  • Complete a Current Living Situation Assessment (CLA )by 1/30/24 for each person on caseload.
  • Be sure to exit any HMIS enrollments for clients not seen in past 90 days
  • Review data in PIT database, make corrections in HMIS as necessary and confirm data when correct.
  • Youth Navigator SSO programs will use the CLA. See PowerPoint slide 12.
  • Non-HMIS Unsheltered Program:
  • For the PIT-Only Outreach programs make sure to use the Smartsheet data collection link to enter client data 2024 Smartsheet Intake

  • Once your data has been imported into the PIT database, you will have 2 business days to confirm.
  • For the CAN specific Unsheltered Outreach data ensure to update Smartsheets and share with Jim Bombaci at Nutmeg by 1/30/2024.
  • Once duplicates have been removed, you will be able to enter data in the CAN specific programs. See PowerPoint slides 15-16.
  • You will have 2 business days to confirm the data in the PIT database
