Request for HIC Updates

Dear Colleagues:

Thank you to everyone who attended the Point In Time (PIT) training(s) last week. For those of you who were not able to attend, the recordings and slides are linked below.

The PIT count will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. We completed most of the HIC, with the exception of Rapid Rehousing projects, in October and November. Many thanks for your work on that!

Instructions for programs that have experienced unforeseen changes in bed numbers, for example:

  • increase in Emergency Shelter Overflow or Seasonal beds
  • reduction in capacity for any program due to construction, fire, etc.
  • the opening of a program earlier than expected or when opening date was not previously known

If the number of beds in a program has changed significantly since the Housing Inventory Count (HIC) numbers were entered or a program needs to be added or removed, please make the bed change requests in the PIT database, or to add/remove send a help desk ticket to Nutmeg.

PIT Trainings:

PIT Basics:

The HIC and PIT counts are our annual counts, required by HUD, of

  • all beds and units (HIC) dedicated to serve people experiencing homelessness
  • Includes emergency shelters, transitional housing, safe havens, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing and other permanent housing
  • the people experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness (PIT) at a single point in time within the CoC.
  • Sheltered homelessness consists of people staying in emergency shelters, transitional housing or safe havens
  • Unsheltered homelessness involves people that Street Outreach Programs and Youth Navigator Programs would encounter

Additional resources including PIT database guidance can be found on the PIT webpage. Thank you for all that you do and for helping to conduct a successful PIT count this year!

Sincerely,

CT BOS Team
